Rásaíocht Con Éireann notes the decision taken in New South Wales with regard to greyhound racing

Rásaíocht Con Éireann condemns any practice of the type outlined in the New South Wales report. Rásaíocht Con Éireann is committed to ensuring that its regulatory and welfare controls are fit for purpose and protect the welfare of greyhounds. Compliance with the 2011 Welfare of Greyhounds Act is a requirement for all those in the industry.

All reported incidents of greyhound cruelty and neglect are investigated by Rásaíocht Con Éireann. Sanctions for welfare breaches include endorsement of Trainers’ Licenses, issuing of fixed payment notices and prosecution through the Courts for failure to comply with a welfare notice. The Welfare of Greyhounds Act 2011 provides that persons who commit offences may be issued with a fine of up to €10,000 and (or) a prison sentence of up to 6 months Rásaíocht Con Éireann may also exclude non compliant owners and trainers from all licensed events.Rásaíocht Con Éireann has successfully taken prosecutions for non compliance with Welfare Notices issued by the Bord.

In the past two years, Rásaíocht Con Éireann has also created new senior integrity, regulatory, animal welfare and legal roles to strengthen over all supervision of the industry. Rásaíocht Con Éireann are publishing the number of monthly Welfare and Kennel Inspections carried out on its website to ensure greater transparency for welfare related actions.

Rásaíocht Con Éireann financially supports greyhound re homing through the Retired Greyhound Trust and animal rescue services.
