Sri Lanka Tsunami Fundraiser 20th Anniversary

Everybody remembers the devastating Tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004 but did you know that in the weeks that followed a group of Sri Lankans living in Ireland set up the Irish Sri Lankan Trust fund to raise funds for those affected in their homeland. One of the driving forces behind the fundraising efforts was a well known Greyhound owner, Chandre Monerawela.

2025 marks the 20th anniversary of a huge fundraising night that was held here in Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium, supported by other events and fundraising efforts in Greyhound Stadia and by the greyhound community in Ireland.

On the 28th of January 2025, we marked the anniversary and we hosted a commemorative race to mark 20 years since the Irish Sri Lanka Trust Fundraiser to add in the tsunami relief. Pictured below is the presentation from Saturday as Cushie The Best won.
