Saturday night’s card at Lifford Greyhound Stadium saw the €1,250-to-the-winner 1XBET Series A2/A3 525 reach its conclusion, with Drveen Lass delivering a trademark front-running performance to land another stake final at the Northwest venue for owner Jim Joe McGrath.
Very much regarded as a track specialist at Lifford, Drveen Lass’ second-place finish in the semi-finals last week did little to dampen the enthusiasm of punters as she went to traps as the 5/4 favourite to turn the tables on her rivals.
Drawn in trap two, things went perfectly to plan at traprise, with McGrath’s charge showing first to lead off a 2.69 sectional. Her cause was helped when nearest rival Pharis Syd moved off at the opening bend on her immediate outside, causing major traffic problems for the majority of the field. With that, the contest was soon put to bed as Drveen Lass stormed into the back straight with a five-length advantage over Hallies Cashout in second, with Hollywell Diva a close third. From there, the daughter of Burgess Bucks - Moss Avenue was as professional as ever, setting a relentless gallop to cross the line three and a half lengths clear of Hollywell Diva, who stayed on strongly to claim a fine second. The time was the fastest of the night, 28.95 .20s, and the victory took her career tally to a brilliant 13 wins.
FOUR STAKE WINS
No fewer than four of those victories have now come in sweepstake finals.
‘Lass’ also landed the €1,000-to-the-winner Northwest Greyhound Supplies A3/A4 525 and the €700-to-the-winner Track Bookmakers ON2/ON3 325 at Lifford, while she also claimed the €1,700-to-the-winner O’Neill’s Dog Food A2/A3 525 at Dundalk. Throw in her BOYLE Sports Irish Derby Trial Stake victory in 2025 and Drveen Lass has proven an exceptional servant for her County Tyrone connections.
