Peter Farrell
One week after winning comfortably on his return to racing, Edermine Bonner made it two wins on the spin at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium on Friday night as he produced a personal best effort to record an eighth career victory.
Jointly owned by Thomas and Patrick O’Gorman, Edermine Bonner recorded a comeback victory in 28.84 seven days ago but he was to go even better on this occasion as he justified his starting price as the 2/1 favourite. Drawn in trap four, the son of Cushie Jet and Edermine Copper bolted from boxes to record a 2.79 sectional, however, was joined early by both Bogcross Echo and Drive On Bono. Showing good courage to maintain his position rounding the opening bend, ‘Bonner’ was in charge down the back, however, the advantage was slender as Drive On Bono was more than a match for his rival. Stopping the third bend sectional clock at a majestic 16.05, stamina became the key on the run for home and Edermine Bonner came out on top of that particular battle as he continued to fend off Drive On Bono, before crossing the line with a one and a half length advantage. The time was a best of the night, 28.64.
STORM NEXT BEST
Blueway Storm made it two wins from his last three starts in race four as he came from off-the-pace to record victory for trainer David Whelan.
Owned by Michael Ryan and Thomas O’Neill, Blueway Storm was in the wars last time out, however, he showed no ill-effects of that outing as he justified his 2/1 favouritism with a typical strong-running performance. Running from trap three, ‘Storm’ didn’t come away at all well and as result, had some four lengths to make up turning into the back straight. However, improving from the halfway mark, the son of Malachi and Cloncunny Eve quickly maneuvered into second and looked a potent threat to the leader, Westwind Paula. Securing a rails berth on the run for home, this enabled Blueway Storm to stretch out brilliantly and he soon motored to the front before quickly manufacturing a one and a half length advantage between himself and Westwind Paula. The time was 28.80.
DAKOTA BACK ON TRACK
There was a welcome return to the winners circle for Dakota Law as he landed race nine to get back to winning ways for the first time since April of this year.
Owned by William Esmonde, ‘Law’ went off as the 2/1 second favourite but he walked from traps to leave himself with plenty of work in the opening yards. Showing fine early pace however, he put himself into a good position entering the back as he gave chase to Burgess Canon in trap one. Quickly bridging a three length deficit, the son of Burgess Bucks and Yahoo Amelia upped the ante rounding the bottom two bends and he was superior on the run for home to finish strongly and record a one length victory. The time was 28.84.
