DOMINANT FRANKFURT CLAIMS CLOUGHTANEY DECIDER AT CLONMEL

Peter Farrell

The final of the Cloughtaney Kennels A3/A4 550 served as the highlight on Friday night’s card at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium and it was Frankfurt that justified favouritism with a demolition job on his rivals to claim the €1,300 first prize on offer.

Owned by Pat McNamara, Frankfurt came into the feature as the jolly having landed both of his previous starts in the event, while posting a best time of 30.11 in the process. However, few would have predicted such one-way traffic in the decider as the son of Grangeview Ten and Mulcair Pearl made it a hat-trick in emphatic style. Running from trap one, Frankfurt took no prisoners early on as he made a slick exit on the rail to excel beautifully into the opening turn in charge. Holding a two length lead around the opener from Cooneysupatfour, this lead soon tripled within a matter of strides as Frankfurt proved a class apart. Shifting through the gears in mighty impressive fashion, there was no catching McNamara’s February whelp as he continued to draw clear around the bottom bends to eventually cross the line with eleven lengths to spare. A thoroughly eye-catching display, the time for the 550-yard trip was a blistering 29.74.

FASTNET RULES SUPREME IN FR. CONLON UNRACED OPENER

Elsewhere on the card, the opening round heats of the Fr. Jerry Conlon Memorial Unraced 525 also produced some fine action and the standard was set by Fastnet Supreme in heat two.

Trained by Adam Dunford for A-C-C-Three-Synd, Fastnet Supreme was quickest into stride from trap three to narrowly lead around the opener from Dakota Drive in second. In doing so, the son of Dorotas Wildcat fended off the challenges of the luckless ‘Dakota’ in second and crossed the line with one length to spare over his rival. The time was 28.84.

In the remaining heats, Good Rocky claimed heat one for Maria Kennedy as the choicely bred son of Droopys Sydney and Billys Diva galloped to a routine success in 29.22, while Gaytime Lomo (Broadstrand Bono - Gaytime Tilly) handed Michael Spillane a comfortable victory in a smart time of 28.93.
