A LIGHTFOOT TREBLE AT GALWAY

    Peter Farrell

There was an eight race card on offer at Galway on Saturday night and the highlight was a treble for the kennel of Jim Bergin as his ‘Lightfoot’ greyhounds all crossed the line to score.

The highlight of the treble came in race two as Lightfoot Quest landed the final of the ‘This Runs Deep A7-A10 525’ as she built impressively on her semi final winning performance. Sent off at odds of 6/4, ‘Quest’ made her intentions clear from the outset as she broke best of all from four to open a commanding lead on the run-up. In doing so, the daughter of Broadstrand Bono excelled down the back to open a five length gap over Cavan Man Gar in second and she maintained a solid gallop to cross the line with three lengths to spare and the land the €630 to the winner decider. The time was a decent 29.49 .10s.

The opening race saw the treble kick-started as Lightfoot Fable also sealed back-to-back wins. Installed at odds of 2/1, Bergin’s charge defended the rails well on the run-up but still had plenty on her plate as she gave chase to Fortune Peach entering the back. However, the daughter of Kilara Icon was more than up to the task as she hit the front rounding the penultimate turn, before drawing clear in the closing stages to win by an extending seven and a half lengths. The time was 30.48 .10s.

The treble was secured in race seven as Lightfoot Tiktok (Grangeview Ten - Bredas Cindy) made light work of her rivals as she too made it back-to-back wins. Donning the red jacket, this lady was sent off at odds of 5/2 and she pinged the lids to hold all the aces early on. Holding a two length lead over Lissatouk Pearl down the back, ‘Tiktok’ stuck to her task well in the closing stages of the contest to cross the line five and a half lengths clear, in a time of 29.84 .10s.

    HAT-TRICK FOR MILAN

Aside from the ‘Lightfoot’ treble, there were two other sweepstake finals on offer and the first of those was the final of the ‘New Racing Office Number 525’, worth €625 to the winner.

Bumblebee Milan came into the event on the cusp of a hat-trick and Paul and Paddy Burke’s charge won comfortably as she continued her rich vein of form. Sent off at odds of 3/1, the daughter of Elite Black and Minnies Kursk broke well wearing blue and she took a three length lead into the back from Hit The Diss in second. Thereafter, the order in behind shuffled, however, there was no such change at the head of proceedings as ‘Milan’ maintained a strong gallop to cross the line three clear of Confused Keily in second. The time was a good 29.31 .10s.

    HINOMITE FOLLOWS SUIT

The last of the finals saw Vincent McKenna, who notched a double on the night, score with Hinomite.

Boasting a winner’s purse of €580, Hinomite (5/4) was expected to take a bit of beating in the A5/A6 525 and in truth, there was never any doubt surrounding the result as the son of Ballymac Best made light work of his rivals. Running from four, Hinomite, owned by I-Lost-My-Dog-Synd, was chasing a hat-trick of wins and he pinged out from four to immediately open a four length lead over his rivals. Without breaking stride at the bends, Hinomite proved a class apart as he extended his lead thereafter to cross the line six lengths clear of Portumna Buck in second. The time was 29.28 .10s.
