There was a twelve-race card on offer at Thurles Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night and the feature was another treble for the kennel of Paddy Scally.
A kennel that is never too far from the winner’s enclosure, Cabra Keiser (Cabra Firmino - Cabra Blitz) was the first to score in the Liffey Mills SSO 330 as he stepped down to the two-bend trip to win in battling fashion. Sent off at odds of 3/1, ‘Keiser’ was led for the majority of the contest by Lonesome Pete, however, he nestled into an inside position on the run for home to storm up the straight and get the better of his rival by a head. The time for the 3/1 chance was a rapid 17.75 .10s.
In race eight, which was the JNC Premier Pitches A4 525, Cabra Kronk sealed the double as he justified his 2/1 billing. A greyhound with brilliant early speed, ‘Kronk’ took a flyer from boxes to post a 1.69 opening sectional. In doing so, the son of Cabra Firmino and Cabra Twister opened a four length advantage, however, this was immediately diminished as both Boozed Akela and Beechwood Moss ate into the lead. Cabra Kronk showed fine resilience however; and he kept on well up the Thurles hill to seal a half-length win over Boozed Akela in second. The time was 29.62 .20s.
The treble was completed in race nine, the R Healy Av / IT Systems Tipperary GAA Night A4 525, as Cabra Kostas won by a wide margin. A full brother to Cabra Keiser, ‘Kostas’ was on the receiving end of a ping break in three and he just about avoided early traffic to take a five length lead into the back. Further traffic in behind enabled Scally’s charge to run to a virtual solo thereafter as he crossed the line ten lengths clear of Lisdaleen Pearl in second. The time was 29.52 .10s.
