AMIGO’S FAMOUSDOUBLE DELIGHTS MAGILL

Ian Fortune

It seems like only yesterday we spoke of Santas Amigo racing to a famous success for Antrim Breeder Ryan Magill in the Category 1 Premier Greyhound Racing Classic at Sunderland.

Fast forward a few weeks and those involved in the flying son of Ballymac Best have even more reason to smile.

Just over a month after his PGR Classic success, he claimed a second Category 1 victory by running out a brilliant winner of the PGR All England Cup. In doing so, he became the first greyhound to ever achieve the double.

An 8-13 chance to land the All-England Cup, he overcame a slow start to strike the front before the turn before powering clear. He would eventually claim the stg£20k prize by three lengths in a rapid 28.34, confirming his standing as one of the very best in the UK.

Obviously, his owners Nadeen Raja and Greg White and handler David Mullins will be over the moon with his two victories but it once again gave Ryan Magill the chance to punch the air.

As you can imagine, Magill has been fielding plenty of phone calls after the latest success of Santas Amigo with another litter out of his wonderful brood Santas Jet on the ground. The litter of seven, which is three weeks old, is made up of three dogs and four bitches.

Ryan has sold all four of the bitches but has chosen to hold onto the three dogs despite some big offers and who would blame him? One suspects Santas Amigo will continue to make waves in the UK in 2026 and Ryan Magill will be hoping his half-brothers and sisters will do the same in the future.
