The opening round of the Bosco Gleeson Memorial A2 got underway at Newbridge on Friday night and Pomba Angie ensured she will be moving up a grade or two after the stake. The youngster posted a standard-setting 28.60, highlighting her undoubted promise.

Trained by David Flanagan for Matthew Derrick, the daughter of Ballymac Cooper and Distant Aoife was in a league of her own in Heat 3, taking charge in the opening yards to pull away for a nine-length success over Changed Times in 28.60.

DALLAS DASHES TO SUCCESS

Minutes later, Jaytee Dallas went next fastest in Heat 4, assuming control on the opening bend before racing clear of Jet Fighter.

Representing the successful combination of Paul Hennessy and John Turner, Jaytee Dallas was soon in front and it was all one-way traffic thereafter. The daughter of Orchestrate and Ballyroe Elsie went on to win by five and a half lengths in 28.73.

REMAINING HEAT WINNERS

This Just In led early to win the opening heat for Joe Tyrrell and Jimmy Corr in 29.40, while Gortkelly Shem got up late to win Heat 2 for Adam Curran and Charlotte Donegan in 29.24.

Maurice and Paula Heffernan were also on the mark in Heat 5 with Villainess leading early to contain Clashroe Ted by a length in 29.13, while the final heat went the way of John Young’s Clonfert Teddy. The Shaun Conway trained son of Grangeview Ten stayed on well to emerge a comfortable winner in 29.11.
