Some months back Tom O'Connor, Tom Pa, set about a mammoth fundraising effort with the support of friends and family, to raise money for cancer charities in Munster.
His fundraising efforts were his way of saying thank you for the support he had received during his own cancer experience and he wanted to show the strength of the greyhound community while he did. With great supporters behind him, he has succeeded in raising over €125,000 for cancer charities and support services in his own county of Kerry, Cork and Limerick.
On Friday night, a large crowd gathered in Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Tralee for the first cheque presentations from the fundraiser. Representatives of Kerry based cancer services were in the stadium where €40,000 was presented to Kerry Hospice Foundation, €24,000 to Kerry Cancer Support, and €5,000 to colorectal cancer services at UHK.
On Saturday night at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium in Cork, €40,000 was presented to Cork University Hospital. He hopes in the near future to also present €16.500 to Milford Hospice in Limerick Greyhound Stadium
Tom is well known and liked in the greyhound community and his Saleen prefix that he, his son Patrick and family are behind has made its mark in our sport over the years.
Thank you Tom and all the committee and everyone who gave their time. money and efforts for this wonderful cause.
