The semi finals of the Ann Cheevers Memorial A4/A5 525 took place at Galway on Friday night and although both were very close in terms of the clock, Fast Fit Pennie maintained her unbeaten record in the stake with another decisive victory.
Owned by John Quinn, Fast Fit Pennie is turning into a real money-spinner and she sealed a third win on the trot last night, while making it eight career wins to boot. Known for doing her best work late, it came as a surprise to see the July daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Fast Fit Maeve emerge from a level break in three to narrowly lead Lissatouk Peggy into the back. Little to separate the pair, it was at the penultimate bend where ‘Penny’ began to turn the screw. A stout stayer, Fast Fit Pennie powered up the Galway straight to race to a four and a half length victory over Lissatouk Peggy in second. The time was 29.37 .10s.
In the opening semi, Crokers Captain just about held off Blacklabel Rose in a thrilling contest. Bidding to bounce back from defeat last time out, ‘Captain’ was installed at generous odds of 5/1 and he made his intentions clear from the outset with a swift exit from four. A bump saw his progress momentarily halted as Blacklabel Rose took charge, however, this was short-lived as Crokers Captain once again asserted down the back. Two lengths clear at this point, the son of Burgess Bucks and Crokers Wish did come back to Blacklabel Rose in the closing yards, however, he kept just enough in reserve to cross the line with a neck in hand. The time was 29.31 .10s.
The draw for the final of the Ann Cheevers Memorial A4/A5 525 was made shortly after and is as follows :
T1 - CROKERS CAPTAIN
T2 - LISSATOUK PEGGY
T3 - FAST FIT PENNIE
T4 - BLACKLABEL ROSE
T5 - MONEYGALL AARON
T6 - FORTUNE SYDNEY
