Willie Hyslop’s Toolmaker Beach emerged a tremendous winner of the Boylesports Derby Trial Stake at Newbridge on Friday evening, showing massive pace into the third turn and home.

Melling Road and Youcantcatchme went up fastest to challenge for the lead in the early yards but they were already under pressure when the Robert Gleeson trained Toolmaker Beach slipped around in third. Melling Road led Youcantcatchme into the back straight but Toolmaker Beach soon moved through the gears.

Showing wonderful pace as they hit halfway, the son of Droopys Jet and Kilara Lizzie shot up the inside to assume control long before the third turn. From there he powered home to see off Youcantcatchme by four and a half lengths in 30.03. Jirano Supreme stayed on to claim third, a further three and a half lengths adrift.
