TIPSTER CHALLENGE A TREMENDOUS INITIATIVE

It was Maurice Organ and Deirdre Leahy of the Kilkenny GOBA that came up with the idea of running a Tipster Competition for the Boylesports Irish Derby.

When they conceived the idea a few months back, it was with the intention of having a bit of fun amongst greyhound enthusiasts while enjoying the best racing imaginable from Shelbourne Park.

It was hoped that it would attract a bit of interest and create a bit of fun for those involved. Of course, a winner’s purse of €2,000 certainly helped but those involved in the set-up of the competition have been blown away by the success of the competition.

Entries started to roll in last week and the initial trickle became a strong flow. It was suddenly very clear the competition was going to be a real success.

A HUGE SUCCESS

In fact, they got far more entries than they were expecting and, as a result, the Kilkenny GOBA have decided there will now be a runner’s up prize of €250.

Similar to first place, if there is a tie for second, it will go down to the person who has the most winners.

And any money left over after running costs and prizemoney have been covered will be put back into Kilkenny GOBA. This will be used to boost prizemoney at the track.

Kilkenny GOBA are also very grateful to Sean and Martina from SJS Web Design who created the new Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium website and designed the layout for the competition. It has proven to be extremely user friendly.

An email will be sent to all participants on Wednesday with the link attached for making their second-round selections. Second round selections can’t be made until 5pm on Wednesday (when the full Shelbourne cards are up) and they will again close on Friday at 12noon.

Once again, on behalf of the Kilkenny GOBA, a huge thank you to everyone for supporting the competition. The battle to find Ireland’s Top Tipster has just begun and one suspects the action in the tipping competition will almost rival the action on the track.

As you can see, Paddy McGhee sits on top of the leaderboard with an impressive 114 points but there is a long way to go. Best of luck to all involved.
