MURRAY GRATEFUL TO SO MANY AS ALDO EYES LAURELS

Ian Fortune

In the moments after the brilliant victory of Carrick Aldo in the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup, trainer David Murray was understandably on a real high and paid tribute to those that made the success of Carrick Aldo possible.

Of course, he highlighted the relief in getting his star over the line, referring to the painful defeat of Brodys Magic three years earlier, thanking owner Thomas Glynn, who is one of his great supporters. He also paid tribute to Dee Barry, who reared Carrick Aldo. She was also at the presentation and was clearly delighted to see the flying brindle fulfil his immense potential.

David Murray also gave his father, Hall of Fame trainer Francie, a shoutout saying he is on the easy list at the moment after hurting his arm in recent days. And it seems Francie isn’t the only one nursing an injury. David’s great friend and travelling companion Michael Malone couldn’t make the trip either but David made sure to send on his best wishes.

And last, but certainly not least, he thanked his brother Francis, who had proverbially taken him out of the muck on the evening of the semi-finals. When David’s van stood down on him, he was lucky that little brother wasn’t far behind him on the road and provided him a chariot, making sure he got to the track on time.

And what next for Carrick Aldo? Both Thomas and David suggested independently that they will probably take the show on the road to Curraheen Park. Barney O’Hare and his Bar One Racing operation have certainly proven lucky sponsors for the pair and they will now chase further luck in the upcoming Laurels. If he brings his trapping boots, it seems certain he will be a big player in the southern classic.

An interview with David and Thomas can be viewed on a number of the various GRI social media channels. Make sure to check them out.
