There were more fireworks at Enniscorthy on Monday night as the second round of the Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced produced two superb heat winners including Proper Heiress, who posted a stunning 28.69 to set a strong standard.
After a massive run in the opening round, Unanimous Roxy was sent of the 4-6 favourite for the second heat but she ran into a rampant Proper Heiress who produced a proper display to open his career account in some style.
Proper Heiress was the clear second favourite, although it was soon clear he was the one to beat. Coming away racing from trap two, he quickly headed Zenith Angel on his inner to dictate the pace into the turn.
Unanimous Roxy was soon in chase and displayed fine pace and great determination to stay with the pace-setter. In fact, she looked likely to join the leader on a couple of occasions only for Willie O’Connor’s son of Droopys Sydney and Powerful Mush to kick again.
Both greyhounds continued to run hard into the home straight but the interestingly named Proper Heiress kept finding to see off Unanimous Roxy by a length and a half. It was a run that saw both the winner and runner-up enhance their reputation. Ballinabola Bale was a long way back in third.
KITTY PURRS IN OPENING HEAT
The opening heat was also won in good style by Hopes Kity.
Prominent into the opening turn from trap two, she held her line to take charge at this point before opening up a race-winning advantage. The Pat Buckley trained daughter of Tullig Cyrname and Nice Mystery eased on to put the result beyond doubt.
Owned by Amanda Jeal, the young January ’23 whelp went on to emerge a comfortable four and a half length scorer in a fast 28.99. Mikeys Excuses was second with Diabolik was best of the remainder, a further seven lengths adrift in third.
