The expression goes ‘you win nothing in trials’ but when a greyhound breaks 28 seconds in two consecutive trials, it’s clear they have the ability to be a star.
Callaway Knegare posted an incredible 27.79 at Shelbourne Park last month and on Friday just gone he backed up that trial spin with another massive trial time.
Moving with real fluency and purpose, the Owen Mckenna trained son of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Sweet clocked an incredible 27.89. He posted 15.89 to the third turn, meaning he came home in a rapid 12 seconds.
It’s too early to know exactly what type of racer he will be but the early evidence suggests he is immensely fast from the second turn and could make a real 550/575yd greyhound. We will have to wait and see but it’s notable that Boylesports have him at just 14-1 for the Boylesports Derby. That means that just Bockos Diamond is shorter in the market.
