BRILLIANT BOBMAR DEBUTS IN STYLE

BRILLIANT BOBMAR DEBUTS IN STYLE

Peter Farrell

The second round heats of the Eamon Gleeson Memorial 525 served as the feature on last night’s card at Clonmel, however, it was the performance of Bobmar in the semi finals of the Fr. Jerry Condon Memorial Unraced that set tongues wagging earlier in the card.

Just an April 24’ puppy, trained by David Flanagan, Bobmar came into the event with two smart trials around Kilkenny, however, he stepped up considerably on debut as he dismantled his rivals by a magnificent seventeen lengths. 4/6 at trap rise, the son of Dromana Bucko - Slaneyside Zoey, owned by the Barrack-Street-Syndicate, broke brilliantly from five and just shaded both Blackstone Opera and Ballinakill Boss on the run-up. In doing so, Bobmar got to work down the back and he posted a scorching 16.18 sectional to the third bend, where he had already manufactured a six lengths advantage over his rivals. Shifting through the gears thereafter, Bobmar only got stronger as the race progressed and he powered home to win by seventeen lengths, in a blistering 28.46. It goes without saying that this youngster has a serious future.

In the second semi, Painters Deal also produced a fine, albeit less spectacular, debut win for Adam Dunford and the O’Mahony-Four-Syndicate. Another that endured an unbeaten qualifying campaign, the son of Grangeview Ten - Painters Best was sent off as the even money favourite and he outlined his intentions early on with a thunderous break from two. As a result, he held a four length lead down the back and stuck to his task well thereafter as he crossed the line four and a half lengths clear of Blackrosecyclone in second. The time was 29.08.

EAMON GLEESON MEMORIAL

In the second round of the Eamon Gleeson Memorial 525, Bad Dreams again set the standard as she justified her even money price tag in the opening heat.

Owned by Declan Beary, Bad Dreams was a fine 28.79 winner in round one and she broke very well from trap three to just shade Cavies Jet on the run-up. In doing so, the daughter of Ballymac Cashout - Beamingboomerang was always in charge thereafter as she held her main rival by two and a half lengths crossing the line. The time was 28.95.

Another even money favourite obliged in the second heat as Slimline Doodles made every post a winner for owner Tommy Caffrey. Just shaded in round one by a neck, ‘Doodles’ pinged out on this occasion to post a swift 2.85 sectional and she headed Pepe Nero into the back straight. The latter joined the leader in around the bottom two bends, however, Slimline Doodles showed great determination to find a second wind late on. Crossing the line with one and a half lengths to spare, the time was 29.13.

Emers Ted was still a maiden coming into his round two assignment but he ran a super race to grab a first career win for JJ and Emer Dunne. 2/1 at the off, the son of Grangeview Ten - Emers Sally was out with the washing early on and sat some six lengths adrift at the halfway mark. However, making steady progress thereafter, ‘Ted’ maneuvered through runners brilliantly late on before powering past his rivals to snatch victory. A real smash and grab from this tracker, the time was 29.09.

In the concluding heat, Goldcash Warrior built on his eye-catching second place finish in round one for Michael Doyle and Jack Meade. Just a March 24’ puppy, ‘Goldcash’ was installed as the 5/4 favourite and although headed early on, he always looked a threat given his finishing power. While Cabra Cooper set a smart gallop throughout, Goldcash Warrior was to strike late as he stormed up the home straight to see off his rival by one and a half lengths. The time was 29.22.
