MEL AND SCAMPI IMPRESSIVE WINNERS AT KILCOHAN PARK

Barry Drake

The semi finals of the Casey’s Camping & Caravan Park ON1 Bitch Stake produced two fantastic winners at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night.

The Other Mel (Grangeview Ten-Scooby Duchess) delivered a stunning performance when clocking 28.23 in the opening heat. Trained by Jennifer O’Donnell for the Born Warrior Syndicate, the January puppy drove a fantastic opening corner to slip around in front. The 4-6 favourite kicked clear on the back straight and it was all about the impressive winner up front. Rattlesnake Moll was eight lengths back in second place.

In the second semi final, Droopys Scampi (Droopys Flytline-Droopys Winifred) took a flyer when making all the running for trainer Johnny Linehan and owner Sean Dunphy. Putting the race to bed down the back straight, the March puppy was displaying big speed up front. Lone Calling was in early trouble but she ran well for second, nine and a half lengths back in second place. The winning time was 28.41.
