ON THE LATT LANDS MARTIN FAHY MEMORIAL AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

Worth a healthy €3,000 to the winner, the final of the Martin Fahy Memorial A3/A4 525 served as the highlight on a brilliant card at Galway on Saturday night and it was On The Latt that crossed in front for owner Gerry O’Donoghue.

A wide-open final saw Barntick Midget sent off as the 6/4 favourite with Confused Kiely, Bayview Wild and On The Latt all penciled in at odds of 3/1. Hollywell Sky was a 4/1 chance, while Lodge Road was the outsider of the pack at 5/1.

On The Latt came from off-the-pace to win his semi final assignment but he implemented different tactics in the decider as he pinged from five to show first. Joined by Bayview Wild on the run-up, the duo were to produce a thrilling contest thereafter as they went toe-to-toe for the majority. Bidding for a ninth career success, ‘Latt’ steered a wide course on the run-up and he held a half-length advantage over ‘Bayview’ entering the back straight. Increasing his advantage marginally at the midway point, Bayview Wild made his move on the approach to the penultimate bend, however, given the stamina power of On The Latt, he was to prove a tough nut to crack. Steering clear of any potential traffic rounding the final bend, ‘Latt’ showed no signs of stopping in the closing yards as the son of Broadstrand Bono - Brickhill Sharon crossed the line with a half-length to spare. The time was 29.12, thus concluding another terrific renewal of the Martin Fahy Memorial. Many thanks are extended to the Fahy Family on their generous sponsorship of this event.

MAGICAL PERFORMANCE FROM INDIAN

Indian Mist has shown huge promise throughout the Magical Kennels A6/A7 525 and he delivered another swashbuckling performance in the decider to emerge an easy winner for Gerry Holian and Brian O’Donnell.

Kindly sponsored by Patrick Guilfoyle of the famed ‘Magical’ kennels, Indian Mist went to traps as the 1/2 favourite after landing his semi final assignment in a brisk 28.92. However, this was merely a teaser of what was to follow as Indian Mist pinged from trap four to make-all. Drawn in four, the son Ballymac Cashout - Ballymac India immediately asserted as he dashed for the rails and he opened an unassailable lead at the midway point. Extending his advantage with every stride, Indian Mist proved several grades above his rivals as he crossed the line eleven lengths clear of Tromora Alice in second. The time was a scorching 28.85.
