TED WINS AT ENNISCORTHY FOR GEORGY

Ian Fortune

The final of the July Open Unraced was the feature of Monday’s action at Enniscorthy and Tassie Ted was a popular winner for one of the great supporters of the track, Georgy Roche.

After two brilliant runs in the previous rounds, Betgoodwin Ben was sent to traps the 4-7 favourite but he was immediately playing catch-up with Tassie Ted making a flying start from two. Quickly opening a clear advantage, it was evident the son of Serene Ace and Tassie Princess was going to take some catching.

Kennel companions Betgoodwin Ben and Singalong Will had bumped on the opening turn with the latter going second. Betgoodwin Ben closed on his kennelmate to the third turn before driving into second between the last two bends.

It was now a race to the line. Tassie Ted continued to dictate but Betgoodwin Ben was on his heels turning for home. In a desperate finish, Tassie Ted held off his rival to score by a head in 28.90. Singalong Will was best of the remainder, a further length and a half adrift.

The winner and runner-up are certainly two to keep on your radar. The early speed of the winner will make him a win machine going forward, while Betgoodwin Ben is certainly fast enough to mix it in top company.
