Racing Post Greyhound TV(RPGTV), in conjunction with Greyhound Racing Ireland and SIS, has announced record Irish coverage for 2023 with up to 22 major live broadcasts planned in addition to the weekly Sunday afternoon Mullingar action.
Two tracks will feature for the first time with the National Produce Stakes at Clonmel being showcased on Sunday, July 2, while ten days later the valuable Dundalk International will be shown.
Once again, the BoyleSports Irish Derby will be shown from round three onwards, while after last month's first Irish double-header, there will be another on Saturday, November 4 with meetings at Shelbourne where the Puppy Oaks final is scheduled and Limerick for the Irish Leger second round, the final of that pencilled in for coverage on Saturday, November 25.
Additionally, the first weekend in November will see Mullingar make a one-off switch from Sunday afternoon to evening on the 5th with the final of the Fair Warrior 400 the feature, one of four Irish sponsorships for RPGTV next year with the others being Mullingar's Cesarewitch plus the 600 and Corn Cuchulainn at Shelbourne Park.
John Tuohey, interim CEO of Greyhound Racing Ireland, said: “After such a positive response to last year’s free-to-air coverage with RPGTV, we are delighted to announce the schedule for 2023, which will once again offer the industry the opportunity to showcase the very best of Irish greyhound racing.
“The 2023 schedule is extensive, featuring events from across the country. We are delighted to also announce that the finals of the Produce Stakes from Clonmel and the Dundalk International will feature in the planned broadcasts."
Richard Brankley, head of greyhound operations for SIS, said: "Once again the best of Irish greyhound racing is going to be shown and I'm particularly pleased that by building on the successes of 2022 we are able expand the number of tracks and competitions included for 2023.
"Irish greyhound racing is firmly established in our schedule and we're delighted, in conjunction, with GRI to be able to offer through RPGTV so many high-class meetings including what has now become the traditional closing four rounds of the Irish Derby."
RPGTV executive producer Clive Lawrence said: "Our increased coverage of the top Irish action proved very popular with viewers and we are thrilled to be able to expand it again with the addition of Clonmel and Dundalk. We will aim to enhance the experience with live reporters were possible."
