1,000TH WINNER FOR TRAINER JOHN KIELY

Monday night at Youghal track was a grand occasion for John and Margaret Kiely as they sent out their 1000th winner when Ardath Benny took the seventh race in dramatic fashion.

The well-backed favourite missed the kick and was bumped at the first bend but showed a terrific turn of pace to move into second place by the third turn.

Some clever tracking took him to the front turning for home, and he had enough left to fend off the renewed effort of Nonevernomore by a short head, in 29.10.

MADE AMENDS

Carefree Penny was a shade unlucky last time but made amends in great style by leading all the way for a clear-cut success in the A3.

Bernie Connolly’s runner was in command throughout and posted 29.41.

ALL-THE-WAY

Dunbar Delta showed he is far from a spent force with an all-the-way victory in the third race. Trained by Kevin McLean for the Woolf Tones Syndicate of Youghal, he showed his customary early dash to take control, and was never in trouble thereafter as he raced to his 14th victory, this one in 29.56.

TEAK-TOUGH

The teak-tough Hard Hurling completed a four-timer with a typically game effort in the A2.

Trained by Mark Drinan for John Kenny, he led all the way but was challenged hard throughout and had to be at his most determined to see off Canvas Act and Mocollop Blaze narrowly, in 29.34.

PLUCKY PERFORMANCE

July pup Mona Dante recorded a second win in seven starts with a plucky performance in the fifth. Paudie O’Sullivan’s pup led early, raced clear down the back, and stuck her neck out with great determination to deny favourite Boherash Michael by a neck in 29.35.
