SALLY A WONDERFUL JACKET WINNER FOR BELLMORE KENNELS

One of the great races on the UK year is the Golden Jacket at Crayford.

The eight-bend event has a special place on the calendar and this year’s competition ended on Saturday afternoon with Bellmore Sally running out one of the very best winners of recent years.

There has been Irish success in the competition also, with Paul Hennessy landing the valuable prize in 2010 with Group Skater, while seven years later it was the turn of Dolores Ruth with Boylesports Star in 2017.

This year’s champion Bellmore Sally, who came home clear of Droopys Senorita, is trained by Northumberland based handler Jimmy Fenwick, but her journey to success began on these shores.

Bellmore Lucy was bred, reared and schooled at the Bellmore Kennels in Kilkenny and displayed promise from a very early point.

Donal Lanigan confirmed he sold the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Bellmore Lucy to Jimmy Fenwick after she posted 29.10 in a trial around Kilkenny at just sixteen months old. She is not the only talented member of the litter, which happens to be Bellmore Lucy’s first.

Her brother Bellmore Rossi is also a very fast performer and is responsible for the fastest time of the year for the 500m trip at Nottingham.

And the “Bellmore” boys, Donal Lanigan and Stephen Behan, are hopeful of a few more stars with Bellmore Lucy’s second litter starting to school. The January ’21 whelps are by Ballymac Bolger and look ‘very promising’.

The good news doesn’t end there, however. Lucy has just had a litter by Newinn Taylor so don’t be surprised if you see plenty more stars emerging from the Bellmore Kennels in the coming months and years. The very best of luck with them, Donal and Stephen.
