SEAN TOO SHARP FOR RIVALS IN ON2 DECIDER

Ian Fortune

Murt Leahy and Pat Carroll have been a potent combination for some time and they took Friday’s feature at Shelbourne Park with Ballybough Sean emerging a deserving winner of the Barking Buzz App 0N2 525.

Reckless Nanny was the hot favourite but she found traffic into the turn and was always struggling to get involved thereafter. In contrast, Ballybough Sean flew into the turn from trap five to assume control. Laughil Flash gave chase but was never bridging the gap.

Instead, Ballybough Sean (Dorotas Wildcat/ Jackeen Flyer) maintained a decent gallop to the finish to emerge a comfortable four length winner of the €1,000 decider in 29.14. Laughil Flash was second with Reckless Nanny four lengths adrift in third.

LIZZY LEAVES IT LATE

The second final on the card was that of the This Runs Deep A4 525 and Ballymac Lizzy provided Liam Dowling with the victory as she led in the final stride to deny long-time leader Jet Stream Charm. Ballymac Lizzy stayed close to the fence to move second on the corner and this was to prove pivotal.

Closing on the leader at the third turn, she remained a big threat despite being forced to check. She rallied on the run in to get up by a neck in 29.11.

EXPLOSIVE RUN FROM BOMBER

The opening round of the Rásaíocht Con Éireann A3 525 opened up proceedings and Airlie Bomber was a brilliant winner of the second heat as he posted a brilliant 28.34 to ensure he would be saying goodbye to graded company after the competition on the competition.

The Kevin Losty trained son of Droopys Sydney and Skywalker Pearl was bred to be fast and he certainly is. Breaking smartly, he flew up the fence to dictate from the outset. Luminou Socks was a big eye-catcher in second, showing finepace down the back straight and staying on to finish a close second, but Darren Riordan and Leon Smullen’s Airlie Bomber wasn’t for catching. Maintaining a strong gallop to the line, Airlie Bomber recorded a length and a half victory.

Faypoint Sam took the opening heat by a shorthead in 29.20, getting up in the final stride to beat Saffron Mick for Chris Flanagan and Noel Walker, while the third heat saw Ropewalk Damsel dominate for a four and a half length success over Aine Dubh in 29.31. Ropewalk Damsel is trained by Liam O’Rourke for the Christo Balbriggan Syndicate.
