Zaconey Apollo saved his best form the night that mattered, claiming the valuable Eamon Wheatley Memorial A4 525 in superb fashion at Newbridge on Friday night.
This was a flawless display from Niall Foley’s son of Laughil Blake and Zaconey Belle. Making a flying exit from the outside box, he soon moved through the gears to turn in front. The well-fancied Black Emperor turned second but could never land a glove on the leader.
By halfway, Zaconey Apollo was two and a half lengths clear and he maintained a strong gallop to the line to increase his advantage before claiming the €2,700 prize by three lengths from Black Emperor in a fastest of the competition 28.76. Given his youth, early speed and clear potential, it seems safe to assume Zaconey Apollo will win a bucket full of races in the future.
