MICHAEL FITZGERALD RIP

The death has occurred of Michael Fitzgerald, Ballygibbon, Mogeely, Cork. 

Michael was a successful breeder/owner/trainer and he had a huge passion for Youghal Greyhound Track. In 2008, he received a lifetime achievement award from Youghal track. Himself and his wife, Anne, were well known all over the country and they had many great customers in the UK.

Michael lived for Youghal track and although he was unable to go in recent years due to his sickness, Youghal was still very much in his heart. The Fitzgerald team would have started off with the 'POOR' prefix and they were lethal in pups races back in the day. After winning on the Friday night, they would be later sold and on the boat on the Tuesday.

Great breeders and fantastic at rearing greyhounds, a lot of classic winners would have come through the hands of Anne and Michael Fitzgerlad. Too many to mention. Michael's son Denis is also a very successful trainer and he has tasted plenty of big race success over the years. Michael was a huge help to Denis starting out and very proud of his achievements.

Funeral details: Michael peacefully at his home with his loving family, and in the wonderful care of his local GP, District Nurse, Local Pharmacy and his home Carers, son of the late William and Hanna Fitzgerald and brother-in-law of the late Billy Dunne, Sadly missed by his wife Anne (Nee Smiddy) and Son Denis, brothers Sean and Ted, sister Bridie (Dunne), Grandchildren Blake and Kai, Daughter-in-law Catherine, Sisters-in-law Cathy and Patricia, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends especially his many friends within the Greyhound family.

Michael will Repose from 4pm until 6pm on Sunday at Egans Funeral Home Greencloyne Youghal.

Requiem Mass on Monday at 11am in The sacred Heart Church Mogeely with Burial afterwards in All saints Cemetery Mogeely.
