RPGTV yesterday announced that the inaugural RPGTV Greyhound of The Year for Mullingar would go to Horseleap Nelly.
The daughter of Ballymac Best and Horseleap Deal was certainly prolific through 2022, winning on thirteen separate occasions at the midland’s venue.
Her first three wins came in A8 company as she landed the Happy St Patricks Day A8 before steadily moving up the grades to win in A1 company for the first time in late August. The step up to top grade didn’t halt her winning ways. In fact, she won four more times before the end of the year, the last of which was in an A0/A1 525.
And there seems no chance of her slipping back down the grades as she began the year in tremendous fashion, capturing an A0/1 on January 14th in 29.14 (estimated 28.54).
She has certainly been a star for her owner Sean McGuinness. Incidentally, Sean was unaware of the fact that she had landed the prize, missing Sunday’s announcement but was delighted to hear the news when the marketing team caught up with him yesterday.
Sean and Nelly will be honoured on Sunday, February 26th when the duo will be presented with their trophy. On behalf of all of us and those involved in Mullingar Greyhound Stadium, we send a heartfelt congratulations to Sean and Nelly.
