Burgess Canon may have left it late but he ran out a deserving winner of the feature race, the Shelbourne Park Regulars A3 525.
Dubious Deluxe set a strong gallop or the vast majority of the journey but Burgess Canon was close enough to the pace in third, with Breaking Stones separating the pair in second.
As the latter began to fade out of contention into the third turn, Burgess Canon made his move. Showing plenty of track craft, he moved second around the last two bends before making his move as they turned for home.
Dubious Deluxe was still in front as they turned for home but she swung to the middle of the track, leaving plenty of room for Sheila Spillane and JJ Fennelly’s massive Burgess Canon up the inside of the track.
The Paraic Campion trained son of Droopys Sydney and Burgess Helena powered home to better Dubious Deluxe by a length in 28.86. Paradise Biko stayed on to finish five lengths further adrift in third.
