PHILIP HEFFERNAN

It’s with sadness we must report the passing of one of the great owners and gentlemen of greyhound racing, Philip Heffernan.

A proud Tipperary man, Philip was known by so many in the sport and was lucky enough to own some truly brilliant greyhounds.

His greatest night in the sport came at Plough Lane, Wimbledon in June, 1993 with Ringa Hustle racing to English Derby success. The Tony Meek trained star was blessed with tremendous pace and he dominated from the start to come home clear.

Aside from Ringa Hustle, Philip also owned plenty more other top class trackers including World Class, the 2003 Champion Stakes winner. The flying brindle also captured the Waterford Masters and was amongst the greyhounds of the year. He went on to be a successful sire.

Those that knew Philip would describe him as a gentle soul and gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all and we send on our sincerest condolences to his wife Vera, daughter Claire, sons Marc, Ross, his sisters Kathleen, Helen, Josephine and Margaret, his eight beloved grandchildren, his son in law and daughters in law, his extended family and many friends.

Heffernan: Main Street, Dundrum, Co. Tipperary. February 7th2024. (Suddenly) Philip :Pre-deceased by his brother Noel and sister Marie. Deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Vera, daughter Claire, sons Marc and Ross, sisters Kathleen, Helen, Josephine and Margaret, his eight adored grandchildren, son in law, daughters in law, brothers in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Reposing at Hayes’ Funeral Chapel, Clonoulty this Friday (February 9th) from 5pm to 7pm. Arriving at the Church of the Assumption, Knockavilla Saturday morning for Requiem Mass at 11:30am followed by burial in Ballintemple Cemetery. House private Saturday morning. Family flowers only.
