Those that frequent Enniscorthy and Shelbourne Park will be more than familiar with the name of Tommy Woods.
A regular scorer at both tracks in recent years with his ‘Lord’ prefix, he had a notable winner at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night with Lord Messi taking the finale over 525yds.
To win any race at HQ on a Saturday night is an achievement but to win the final race is even better. Add to that the fact that it was Tommy’s 200th winner and it was a truly special night for the Enniscorthy based handler.
As with many of Tommy’s dogs, Lord Messi displayed fine early speed. He may have been headed briefly into the third turn but rallied to come home a length clear in 28.87. A huge congratulations to Tommy on a wonderful achievement and here’s to the next 200 winners. Given the quality at his disposal at present, it may not be that long.
