The exploits of Graham Holland and his Riverside Kennel team over the past number of years have been truly exceptional and the end of year rankings confirmed that he was, once again, the most prolific handler in 2021.
It has more significance than that, however. By taking the crown in 2021, he completed a ten year stretch at the top. It all started in 2012 when he took over from Paul Hennessy and he has remained at the top of the table ever since. Incredibly, outside of Holland and Hennessy, no other trainer has topped the list since the rankings commenced in 2001.
For the record Graham Holland sent out 217 winners in 2021, some 78 more than his nearest rival Murt Leahy, who also had a tremendous year with 139 winners. Liam Dowling was just one shy of the ton on 99, while David Murray and David Flanagan came next on 75 and 73 respectively.
Paraic Campion also sent out 73 winners, while Robert Gleeson had 72 winners. Kieran Lynch (65) was ninth on the list while, Neilus O’Connell, Peter Cronin and Mark O’Donovan were joint tenth with 64.
