Kilcohan Park and greyhound racing in general lost one of the great
characters over the Christmas period with the death of Nicky
‘Spinners’ Quinlan from William Street in the heart of Waterford City.
As an owner Nicky enjoyed plenty of success with his greyhounds the
vast majority bearing the ‘Knockhouse’ prefix. In the good old days
when punters and bookmakers were in plentiful supply at tracks in the
South East and further afield Nicky was called upon by many owners and
trainers to get the cash on and when Nicky backed one they invariably
won.
A talented sportsman in his youth Nicky was also great company and
travel time to greyhound tracks in other counties was always halved
such were the funny stories he came up with.
A successful businessman Nicky was very generous and at Christmas time
would call in a number of favours from friends and deliver food
hampers to needy families in Waterford City.
A great family man Nicky will be sorely missed by wife Mary, son
Nicholas and daughter Anne-Marie, relatives and friends. We extend our
deepest sympathy to all concerned.
May his soul rest in peace.
