DERBY CHAMP TRIALS BACK WHILE KOBE TAKES OFF

Born Warrior didn’t exactly set the world alight in his first official spin since capture the Boylesports Derby last September.

The Jennifer O’Donnell trained superstar posted 29.11 for the 525yd trip at Shelbourne Park ahead of racing on Saturday night but excuses can certainly be offered for the poor run.

John Mitchell, Jennifer’s husband and co-owner of the speedster, reported the flying black badly charged the boxes and cramped up a little. Born Warrior is said to be a little stiff but should be fine. As a precaution, he will get checked over in the coming days but, as we speak, the plan is still the Gold Cup, which commences on February 4th.

In contrast to Born Warrior, kennel companion The Other Kobe took off in a trial. The Winter Racing Festival winner seems to be right back to his very best and clocked a stunning 28.11 to confirm his well-being. He too is being readied for a crack at the Gold Cup, which could turn into quite the competition.
