It's been busy times at Clonmel in recent weeks with no shortage of quality performance, however, it would be remiss not to mention Carmac King after a string of thoroughly impressive victories.
Running in the Sporting Press Online Edition A0/A1 525, the Owen McKenna-trained tracker, owned by Timmy Carmody, produced the performance of the night at the Suirside venue on Friday as he dismantled a very smart field to make it three wins on the trot. Having tasted success at the tail-end of 2023 with a 28.78 .10s win at Clonmel, the son of Droopys Sydney and Peters Queen brought that form to HQ as he stepped up to the 550-yard trip to win at ease in a fine 29.86. Bidding for the hat-trick last night, Carmac King could not have been more impressive as he broke nicely from trap four before outpacing the early leader Burgess Orlaigh. A red-hot 4/6 market chance, ‘King’ quickly excelled into a five length advantage down the back and he raced into the third bend to post a majestic 15.89 sectional. Thereafter, it was a formality. Maintaining a relentless gallop, the March 22’ whelp soared across the finishing line as he accounted for a five length victory over Ballinabola Jim, in a swift time of 28.38 .10s. A greyhound that is clearly improving at a rate of knots, don’t be surprised if he features amongst the major honours as 2024 progresses.
