TIME FOR GREYHOUND OF THE MONTH

The headline says plenty but it also has a double meaning.

It was announced in recent days that one of the great sponsors in the sport, Time Greyhound Nutrition, are stepping into sponsor the Greyhound of the Month Award in the UK.

It’s a wonderful initiative and one we should probably take on board on this side of the Irish Sea. With the Irish racing calendar now twelve months long with no real let up, there is always room to recognise the stars that continue to light up the tracks of Ireland.

Of course, the National Greyhound Awards have pride of place in the early part of the year but only the select few greyhounds are recognized. Maybe it is time that we follow of the lead of those in the UK and introduce a greyhound of the month award.

For the moment, however, we must watch on with envy as the Time Greyhound Nutrition and the Greyhound Writers’ Association choose their December Greyhound of the Month. The nominations for said prize are set to be announced in the coming days.
