BURNPARK DOUBLES UP AS CANON EXPLODES AT GALWAY

Last night’s Galway card was littered with sweepstake action and it provided several smart performances with a double for the ‘Burnpark’ kennels one of the highlights on the night.
Burnpark Maggie is clearly well thought of and it didn’t take long for Emily Browne’s bitch to assert and make it two wins from as many starts. Running from trap three, the 4/6 shot rocketed from her middle berth and quickly developed a two length lead over Bumblebee Jordan entering the opening bend. Tracking superbly at this point, the January 21’ daughter of Pat C Sabbath - Burnpark Leanne drew clear down the back and opened an unassailable lead over her rivals as she romped to a eleven length success in the end. A telling performance from what is a very promising young bitch, the time was a slick 29.09 .20s.
The double was completed in race seven Burnpark Twinkle landed the second semi final of the 90th Birthday July Festival A4 525. Running from trap two, Maria Browne’s bitch nestled into a good position at the opening turn to take a slender lead down the back from High Heels in second. Little to separate the pair thereafter, Burnpark Twinkle showed the superior stamina in the closing stages to cross the line with half a length in hand. The time was 29.74 .20s.
CANON EXPLODES
Prior to that, Three Canons set a very high bar in the opening semi final of the A4 525 as she justified her starting price of 1/2 and further enhanced her rapidly growing reputation.
Jointly owned by Joan Browne and Conor Keating, Three Canons really caught the eye last time out when finishing fast but she trapped much slicker from two last night to show blistering acceleration early on before taking charge entering the back. Holding a three length advantage at this point, the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Coolavanny Spice stepped it up from the third bend home as she stormed across the line to emerge a near seven length winner over Krystaline in second. The time was a rapid 29.05 .20s.
BACK-TO-BACK FOR DASHER
In the 90th Birthday July Festival A5/A6 525, there were to be no surprises as Jumeirah Dasher once again set the standard for Jimmy Buckley.
A winner of his opening round assignment in 29.05 .20s, Jumeirah Dasher was expected to take quite a bit of beating and as such, he went to traps as a 1/3 chance in his quest for back-to-back wins. Running from trap three, the son of Ballymac Best and Jumeirah Charm didn't come away too fluently but he quickly outpaced his rivals to round the opening corner with daylight in hand. Drawing clear thereafter, Jumeirah Dasher had over eleven lengths to spare over Heathlawn Logan crossing the winning line. The time was 29.25 .20s.
In the second semi final, Alittlekindness showed that Jumeirah Dasher won’t have things all his own way in the decider with a very likeable display by the Mullins-Curtin-Syndicate owned runner. Supported into 4/5 at the off, Alittlekindness made full use of her rails pitch in one as she stayed tight to round the opening corner with two lengths in hand. Setting a strong gallop thereafter, the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Cantcallherthat really took off up the home straight as she crossed the line with seven lengths to spare over Ballyhale Linda in second. The time was 29.33 .20s.
EVERGREEN CRAKL WINS AGAIN
The Record Breaker A4 575 was the last of the sweepstakes to get its semi finals underway and it was Five Alley Crakl, who is approaching his sixth birthday, that went quickest as he recorded his 20th victory from an amazing 96th start.
A quite incredible tracker, Five Alley Crakl continues to race at a high standard and all credit to Paul Hogan for keeping this greyhound in superb form given his increasing years. Running from trap four last night, Five Alley Crakl would have relished the extra yardage of the 575 trip so when he broke in midfield, connections wouldn’t have worried too much given his strong running capabilities. After avoiding early traffic rounding the opener, the son of Skywalker Puma and Maldini Pops showing big speed down the back to storm past Croaghill Cilla on the approach to the penultimate turn. Staying on as strongly as ever close home, Five Alley Crakl was three lengths better off at the winning line, where he stopped the clock in a decent 32.14 .20s.
