It was in late July, 1932 when the Brandywell, Derry opened its doors for greyhound racing. Tonight, the Keeperlit Gala night will be run to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the first meeting at the northern venue.
All eight races are sponsored with increased prizemoney, while each winner will also receive an engraved trophy and a winner’s jacket. If you are anywhere close to the Brandywell and can get there this evening, it really is worth a visit.
On a more general point, it’s an incredible achievement to make it to their 90th anniversary and thanks to the work of so many, including the queen of the Brandywell Lynda Bonner, greyhound racing has a bright future in Derry. A huge well done to all involved in the Brandywell. We wish you the very best of luck with your celebrations this evening and look forward to the party celebrating 100 years of racing in Derry ten years from now.
