There was more sweepstake action on show last night at Galway Greyhound Stadium and the €1,100 to the winner WGOBA Members Tri-Distance A3/A4 went the way of Curraghmorestar as the outsider of the field ran to a comfortable success.

Owned by Patrick Conway, Curraghmorestar was sent to traps the 4/1 outsider of the field but after a messy affair, it was the daughter of Droopys Jet and Fire Back who led from the outset to land the valuable prize. Quickest into stride from trap one, the blue shot around in front while mayhem ensued in behind and from here, she set a smart gallop to prevail by two lengths from Honkwhenyouhome in second. The time was a slick 31.83 .20s.

IN OTHER RACES

Elsewhere on the card there were no shortage of top-class performances and none more so than Abigails Mystery in race four, a 550-yard event. Owned by Abigail Morrissey, the son of Belles Direction was sent off the 4/6 favourite in his bid to get back to winning ways and after taking control at the penultimate corner, he never looked back. Staying on strongly in the closing stages of the contest, Abigails Mystery was brilliant in crossing the line five lengths clear of Pats Best Girl in second. The time was a rapid 30.28 .20s.

Despite having no luck in the stake final on the night, John Croker did get on the scoresheet in race five as Crokers Samba (Droopys Jet - Killeen Princess) raced to victory. Led early on by Brickhill Layla, Crokers Samba showed the superior early zip from five to sweep around the opening bend in charge. Tradesman emerged an eye-catching second down the back and looked a big threat, however, Crokers Samba stood firm to cross the line with one and a half lengths to spare. The time was 29.10 .20s.

It was a night for favourite backers as in race seven, Hyde Park produced the performance of the night as he dipped under the 30-second barrier in estimated terms. Jointly owned by Mark Geraghty and Marie McDonnell, Hyde Park was quickest into stride from trap one but he was briefly headed down the back by Bee In Court in two. However, the 4/5 favourite took back control on the approach to the penultimate turn and the son of Laughil Blake and Brides Glory pulled clear thereafter. Three and a half lengths between the pair crossing the line, the time was a hot 30.08 .20s.
