JONNY CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AT GALWAY

JONNY CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

Galway hosted a ten race card last night and there were a number of fine displays on offer, none more so than Jonny Whiskers who produced a career best effort to land the concluding contest.

Owned by Master Lee Byron, Jonny Whiskers has only had twelve starts thus far in his career but it is fair to say his connections have already had some spin out of the May 21’ whelp as he racked up his fifth career victory last night in an A1 contest. Sent off as the 5/4 favourite, Jonny Whiskers came away racing from trap four and he disputed the early running with Lissatouk Gena in trap one. Despite his rival having the inside advantage over her rival, Jonny Whiskers ran a brilliant opening turn and his class was to tell down the back straight. Immediately outpacing his rival to take a four lengths lead midway down the back, the son of Skywalker Logan and Cudkevinbewrong stayed on stoutly in the closing stages to cross the line with over three and a half lengths to spare. The gallant Lissatouk Gena in second, the time was a blistering 28.76 .10s.

IN OTHER RACES

In race five, an A6/A7 contest, Lady Aston produced a blistering performance to make everyone sit up and take note. Only an October puppy, Michael Keating’s bitch has a big future as she dominated from start to finish to justify her 8/11 price tag. Still a maiden heading into her fifth race, Lady Aston got things right at the boxes as she pinged from six to lead comfortably into the opening turn. Three lengths clear at this point, the daughter of Pestana and Rinnwood Pearl drew clear thereafter as she blitzed her rivals to run out a twelve length winner over Orbsen Olive in second. The time was a mighty impressive 28.89 .10s

In the very next race, Croaghill Sky also impressed for Patrick and John McDonagh. Another who was still seeking a first career victory, she broke smartly from trap five to dispute early on with Dennys Best in three. A ding-dong battle was to ensue down the back as Dennys Best held all the aces over Croaghill Sky, however, McDonagh’s charge wasn’t done yet. Swinging around the outside, the daughter of Good News and Caragh Kayla came again around the bottom turn and despite running wide, she held Dennys Best by one length crossing the line. The time was 29.18 .10s.

Prior to the performance of Jonny Whiskers, Menmal King made a winning return to Galway over the extended 575-yard trip. Owned by Sinead McKenna, the son of Magical Bale and Paradise Summer had a luckless passage at Lifford last time out but put that right with a trap-to-line performance from the orange jacket. Breaking in front, the strapping fawn held a clear advantage for the majority of the contest and although put under major pressure in the closing yards by the eye-catching Coolclar Star, he just about got over the line to record a half length victory. The time was 31.98 .10s
