Gerry and Dolores Merriman landed a big prize at Shelbourne Park on Friday night with Highview Mia coming home in front in the €5,000 to the winner This Runs Deep A2 525. As an added bonus, the duo completed a one-two with Highview Scan finishing well to take second.
There was a battle into the turn with Ballygur Orla and Bristow going up fast but as they clashed, Highview Mia made her move. Going on as they entered the back straight, the daughter of Pat C Sabbath and Highview Picture shot clear to emerge a comfortable three length winner over Highview Scan in 28.70.
LION HEART GOES FASTEST
Aidan Comerford’s Lion Heart was the fastest winner of the night when holding off the late charge of Whitman to win the final of the valuable Retired Greyhound Trust A3 525.
The Marie Gilbert trained son of Droopys Sydney and Susie Sapphire shot from trap four and was in complete control by the second turn although Whitman kept him honest. Despite the best efforts of Whitman, Lion Heart held on to score by three parts of a length in 28.54.
ME SON DOMINANT
Getup Me Son was at his electric best in the final of the €2,200 Go Greyhound Racing A1 NB 525.
Trained by Mark Robinson for Daniel Ornstein, the son of Ballymac Cashout and Skirk Grace flew into the turn to build a sizeable lead before holding the late charge of Carrick Cantona by a half length in the wet conditions in 28.64.
SAVANNAH COMES OUT ON TOP
Last Savannah claimed a fifth career victory in the final of the Retired Greyhound Trust A5 525 for the Sean Nos Syndicate.
The near veteran daughter of Droopys Roddick and Kebe Lady flashed from the inside box to hold a narrow lead into the turn but she increased her lead as her rivals lost ground off the second turn.
Carlas Chap began to bridge the gap into the third turn but was forced to check his stride, allowing Last Savannah to hold off her rival in the dying yards. Last Savannah held on by a neck in 29.25.
MANALISHI JETS IN
Earlier on the card, James Kerr was on the mark with the promising Manalishi Jet in the final of the Upcoming Events ON2 525.
The son of Ballymac Best and Fleadh Ramona was a 2-1 chance but h soon had matters in hand. Breaking fastest from the inside box, he dominated to contain the late charge of Highview Tom by a length in 28.85.
