GIZMO SPARKLES IN TREATY CUP DECIDER AT LIMERICK

There was another top-class card on display last night at Limerick Greyhound Stadium as the Martin Ryan Transport Treaty Cup 350 came to a conclusion and it was Gizmo Cash who landed the €3,000 first prize as he produced another flawless performance.

Kindly sponsored by Martin Ryan Transport, the 2022 renewal of the Treaty Cup Open 350 has proved another terrific event and last night’s decider was a fitting end to the competition with Gizmo Cash and Serene Ace, the two stand-out performers of the stake, serving up a thrilling finale.

Much was dependent on the start with Serene Ace crucially drawn on the inside of Gizmo Cash, however, the latter got first run from trap three and this was to prove decisive in the overall outcome of the event. At traprise, Give It Up was first to show but was immediately pegged back by the super early pace of Gizmo Cash and the brindle led the way into the opening corner, Meanwhile, Serene Ace again missed his break from trap two but he was slicing through runners and was making rapid headway on the approach to the opener. Gizmo Cash slammed the door however, which forced Serene Ace to check, and allowed Give It Up to once again give chase as Gizmo Cash set sail for home. Jamie McGee’s sensational son of Droopys Jet continued to set a blistering gallop thereafter and although Serene Ace and Give It Up ran two terrific races in behind, they failed to peg back the leader and he was one and a half lengths too strong crossing the line winning line. The time was 18.48 and Gizmo Cash continues to add to his glowing CV after breaking the clock at Shelbourne Park earlier this year.

BUCKLEY TREBLE

The opening round heats of the €5,000 to the winner John Whelan Memorial Kennedy Cup A3 525 served on the undercard and Pat Buckley, who sent out a treble in total, was accountable for two of the heat winners as Killahan Sydney and Stream Of Sydney both scored in style.

Setting the standard for the opening round, Stream Of Sydney was sent to traps as the 4/9 jolly and he obliterated the field to win in emphatic fashion. Owned by Austin Whelan, Stream Of Sydney is only an October whelp and he was quickly into stride from trap three to follow Joeys Champ into the opener. Quickly asserting upon entrance to the back stretch, the son of Droopys Sydney and Jet Stream Proof drew clear thereafter and he crossed the line with seven lengths to spare over nearest rival, Joeys Champ, in second. The time was an electric 28.55.

Prior to the concluding heat, Killahan Sydney landed heat seven which was a four-dog race. Running from trap three, Killahan Sydney was a warm order in the market and he was installed as a 1/2 shot to land the spoils for owner Kenny Glen. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the son of Droopys Sydney as he led early doors by Hello Sydney in trap one. Nestling in behind at this point, Killahan Sydney displayed phenomenal gears down the back to overturn a five length deficit and he continued to power home as he won by three and a half lengths from Hello Sydney in second. The time was 28.77.

Pat Buckley’s third winner came in the shape of Its My Bucks as he held off the fast finish of Mystical Josie to bounce back from his Treaty Cup exit last time out. An even money favourite at the off, the blue jacketed runner showed blistering gears early on to lead Mystical Josie into the bend and although challenged by the latter in the closing stage, he saw off his rival by a mere neck come the winning line. The time was 28.99.

KENNEDY CUP ROUND-UP

It certainly was a night for favourite backers and Hello Tommy made light work of heat two as the even money chance dominated his field to score. Trained by Paul Hennessy for Susan Hennessy, Hello Tommy showed a clean pair of paws to his rivals early on as the fawn pinged the lids from trap four to power into the turn in control. Proving too hot to handle thereafter, the son of Jaytee Yankee and Hello Diva crossed the line with six and a half lengths to spare as the clock returned a smart 28.62.

In heat three, there was a local winner as Mohane Maggie once again displayed her brilliant early pace to see off Bright Eve by a minimal margin. Even money at the off, Cormac Davern’s charge came away racing from four and she showed her customary acceleration to lead early doors. Setting a fine gallop throughout, Bright Eve came with a strong finish in the closing stages however it was all in vain as Mohane Maggie prevailed by a neck. The time for the daughter of Ballymac Best and Mohane Misty was 29.07.

Fraser Black was represented by Maireads Rocket in heat four and the evens favourite produced a strong second half to the contest to record a second career victory for owner Joe Horan. Running from four, Maireads Rocket didn’t come away too fluently and it was Tally Ho Midas and Quivers Pebbles who disputed the opening exchanges. Showing sizzling gears down the back however, Maireads Rocket stormed to the front at the three-quarter mark and he stayed on stoutly to record a one length victory. The time was 28.86.

In heat five, Wizard built on his smart 16.39 trial at Clonmel last time out to record a fourth career win for Gary Pepper and Paraic Campion. Running from trap six, Wizard was swiftly into stride from six but was headed early on as Ballymartin Rory came away best of all from trap three. However, taking charge midway down the back was Wizard and the son of Magical Bale and Coolavanny Park proved too strong for his rivals thereafter as he recorded a one and a half length victory over Ballymartin Rory in second. The time was 28.83.

In the remaining opening round heat of the John Whelan Memorial Kennedy Cup, Tromora Rocket made light work of his field to win in convincing fashion. Owned by David Hogan, Tromora Rocket was well drawn in one but a moderate start saw him sit third early on as Castleivy Blake flew to the turn. However, making steady progress throughout, Tromora Rocket took charge at the three-quarter mark and it wasn’t a race thereafter as the son of Ballymac Bolger and Ballymac Cameo powered to victory. Six and a half lengths in it at the winning line, the time was a brisk 28.66.
