MAGICAL POPPY ON TOP FORM IN DEADLY KENNELS OPEN 750 AT CURRAHEEN PARK

MAGICAL POPPY laid down a serious marker in the first semi-final of the €4,500 to the winner Deadly Kennels Open 750 at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

Once the 2-1 shot broke in front, it was game over. Trained by Patrick Guilfoyle for Donal Guilfoyle, the powerful performer set a strong early pace and she never looked in any danger. It was a stunning front running display as she cruised to a seven and a half length success over Bogger Megan. Three quarters of a length back to Almighty Paddy in third place. The time was a standout 41.56.

FINISHING STRONGLY

In the second semi final, it was all about Ballybough Champ for owner Pat Carroll and trainer Murt Leahy.

Midfield early on, the 4-5 favourite came with a strong run as they approached the second last corner. Ballymac Kurtis made a lot of the early running, but he was in trouble when the winner came alongside. Finishing strongly, Ballybough Champ drew clear to win in style. Ballycowen Luka ran well for second, five and a half lengths back and he was two lengths clear of Vipers Buzz who was back in third. The winning time was 41.81.

ALL ONE WAY TRAFFIC

Galloping Sydney was the standout performer in the final of the Curraheen Park A1.

The June puppy was making it five wins from just six career outings when overcoming the wide draw to score, in 28.30. Trained by Graham Holland for owner Una Creed, the 2-1 shot flashed from traps and the exciting young talent had enough early speed to slip around in front. All one way traffic up front, he came home with seven lengths to spare over Cheeky Lily, in 28.30.
