It goes without saying that the many unraced competitions at Enniscorthy are worth following with so many stars emerging from the sunny south east. That will clearly be the case in the June Unraced, which got underway on Monday evening.
EXCITING ARCHER FIRES
All four heats were won in superb fashion with less than two and a half lengths separating the fastest and slowest heat winners. Pat Buckley certainly seems to enjoy his journey’s to Enniscorthy and he recorded a wonderful double with his Glengar Archer setting the standard with a superb 28.90 return in the final heat.
A well-bred son of Glengar Bale and Ballinabola Evie owned by Pat’s wife Pauline, Glengar Archer shot from the outside box before edging across to the rail into the turn. Showing superb early speed, he hit the corner with daylight and proceeded to move with real fluency to emerge an eight-length winner over Jamestown Rose. Perfecto Kiwi was another length adrift in third.
SYDNEY LOOKS THE PART
Fifteen minutes earlier, Kenny Glen’s Mystical Sydney had initiated the Buckley double with a fine display in Heat 3. Saunders Blossom flashed from traps but Mystical Sydney flew into the turn before forcing his way to the front between the opening two bends.
Once doing so, it was all one-way traffic. A member of the hugely talented Droopys Sydney/ Mystical Moll litter, Mystical Sydney went on to beat Fairly Cushie by six lengths in 28.99.
COMFORTABLE FOR TENYEARSHUTTERIN
Tenyearshutterin comfortably justified favouritism in the opening heat. Owned by Declan Beary and Orlaigh McCarthy, the son of Vic Vega and Ontheredcarpet quickly accelerated to the front after a reasonable start from three.
Whitewood Cash was soon in chase but had no answer to the pace-setter. Tenyearshutterin eased on to eventually hit the line five and a half lengths clear in 29.00.
AMY LOOKS A PROSPECT
Bonnie Amy was the sole female heat winner. The daughter of Whitewood Lad and Indian Prayer may have cut for the fence in the early yards, taking a couple of bumps, but she was more than determined and quickly found herself in front.
Many of her rivals may have found traffic in behind but it scarcely mattered as Bonny Amy drew further and further clear before winning by twenty lengths from White Lightning in 29.06. It may have been the slowest of the heats but, have little doubt, the winner will go far faster in the future, especially if drawing closer to the fence.
