Costa Candy was effectively asked an impossible task by the members of the Costalot Syndicate; to fill the shoes of the recently retired Costa Plenti.
The daughter of Dorotas Woohoo and Borna Candy has always shown promise but was zero from nine before taking her place in the Retired Greyhound Trust A3 at Shelbourne Park last week.
She opened her account in the semis, posting 29.21, and she clearly liked the winning feeling as she doubled up in the final on Friday night. This was an undoubted career best effort from the June ’20 whelp. Showing fine early speed, she comfortably led the field into the turn and was three lengths to the good into the back straight.
A couple of her rivals, including Houseofillusion, threatened briefly as they hit the third turn but Costa Candy kicked again of the final turn to emerge a two and a half length scorer in 29.15. While she may never earn as much as Costa Plenti did during his superb career, the €2,200 winner’s purse is a very good start and don’t rule out further success in the future.
