ANGLESEY LANDS THE FEATURE ON LIMERICK & CLARE GOBA NIGHT

The Limerick & Clare GOBA were responsible for sponsoring the entire card at Limerick Greyhound Stadium last night and the feature event was the final of the Ryans Timber Machinist & uPVC Suppliers A4 Tri-Distance which carried a €1,500 winner’s purse.
Owned by the Anglesey-Syndicate and trained by Paul Dowdeswell, Anglesey Away was noted staying on strongly in previous outings and she was installed a 5/2 chance to make it back-to-back wins for connections. Larchill Port however, had gone considerably quicker in the semi final and the even money favourite showed first from trap three to head the field early on. Setting a good gallop down the back, Larchill Port was in control of the decider but several rivals were chasing hard in behind, one of which was Anglesey Away who was well positioned to deliver another big finish in the red jacket. Motoring off the final turn, Anglesey Away, a daughter of Vulturi and Amanita Chick, came home with real intent as she stormed across the line with a half length in hand over Dynamic Diva in second. The time was 32.09.
MOET SUCCESS FOR UNBEATEN MAGS
The first final of the night was the MOET Accountants A6/A7 525 and it went to script as the even money favourite, Slaheny Mags, maintained her unbeaten run in the stake to land the €1,250 winner’s prize.
Owned by Peg Lenihan, Slaheny Mags had won both prior rounds by an aggregate of fourteen and a half lengths and she went into last night’s decider as the hot favourite to land the spoils. Running from trap four, the daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Drumcrow Clara broke well from the middle but was headed early on by the blue jacket of Ready For Adam. However, the strong-running Slaheny Mags displayed her staying power in recent weeks and she took control down the back to draw clear and run out a convincing winner over her rivals. Six and a half lengths better off than Ready For Adam at the winning line, the time was 29.51.
VETERAN JET LANDS LIFFEY MILLS DECIDER
The final of the Liffey Mills A5 525 was next on the agenda and this went this way of veteran performer Gower Jet as he sprang a 4/1 upset in landing the €1,250 decider.
Approaching his sixth birthday, Gower Jet landed his semi final assignment in off-the-pace fashion and Anna Carey’s runner deployed similar tactics last night as he took charge off the second turn to seal back-to-back wins. Running from trap one, Gower Jet didn’t come away too fluently as Private Jet showed first to head proceedings. However, a seasoned veteran, Gower Jet benefited from early traffic to nip up the inside and the son of Droopys Jet and Cloon Glory was never going to be caught thereafter. Maintaining a powerful gallop all the way to the winning line, Gower Jet stopped the clock in 29.50, three lengths better off than Blastoff Roisino in second.
IN OTHER RACES
The Other Kobe booked his Con & Annie Kirby ticket last weekend with an impressive victory in what was just his second career start and he followed that up with another hugely promising run in race nine, the Extra Dividends AO 525. Owned and trained by Jennifer O’Donnell, the son of Ballymac Best and Mountaylor Queen went to traps a 4/6 chance and he was once again paw perfect at traprise as he flashed from red to lead his rivals into the opening turn. From here, it proved a formality for The Other Kobe as he set a scorching gallop throughout before crossing over two and a half lengths clear of Ballyelan Rolly in second. The time was a brisk 28.61.
Jointly owned by Christopher and John Morrissey, the well-supported Oakfront Cadet justified his 4/5 starting price in the Fitzgerald Glass/DB Schenker A2 600 as the June puppy delivered a late flurry to secure back-to-back wins at Limerick. A big 83-pounder, Oakfront Cadet broke well from the red jacket but it was Dromore Fiveo who led early doors from trap two. However, the son of Belles Direction and Ferryforth Belle stalked the leader down the back straight and he delivered his challenge between the bottom two bends to take up the mantle. Staying on strongly thereafter, Oakfront Cadet raced to a two and a half length victory over Dromore Fiveo in a smart time of 33.17.
Race ten was the NC Paint & Decor A1 525 and it was Sunshine Dream who produced a strong finish to hand Brid and Brendan Maunsell back-to-back wins. Only a June puppy, Sunshine Dream made every yard of the running last time out but after Ocean Hugo set a sizzling gallop early on, the son of Droopys Jet and Fire Height Brid was forced to pull out all the stops to ensure victory. Taking charge in the latter half of the contest, Sunshine Dream, a 3/1 shot, stayed on well close home to cross the line with two and a half lengths in hand over the gallant Ocean Hugo in second. The time was 28.95.
Andrew Murray was out of luck in the tri-distance final earlier on the card but he got back on track in the MC Commercials A2 600 asGortkelly Mona landed a fourth career win. The 6/4 favourite, Gortkelly Mona sat in midfield early on as Woodfield Master headed proceedings, however, the daughter of Dorotas Woo Hoo and Ballintee Babe upped the ante in the closing stages to produce a big finish and cross the line two lengths clear of Grouchos Cain in second. The time was 33.32.
The final race of the night was the Green Meats A1 525 and this went the way of local runner, Gurtnacrehy Rose. Owned by James Kelly, the daughter of Laughil Blake and Tyrur Jennamarie didn’t come away as fluently as usual from trap four, however, she tracked Moonlight Macy throughout before delivering a late challenge to land the spoils. Two and a half lengths clear of Tyrap Luke in second, the time for the 3/1 market chance was a decent 29.20.
