Owen McKenna was in buoyant form this morning when we caught up with him and he confirmed his star performer Susie Sapphire was also feeling bright and breezy after her heroics in the Bresbet Easter Cup on Saturday night.
Said Owen of his incredible performer, “She’d knock you down. Honestly, she bounced out of the kennel yesterday morning. She picked up a small cut but it’s only tiny. There’s no need for a stitch or anything.
I’m expecting her to start whining soon. She’s like that, if you don’t do something with her, she gets impatient.
“She ran great the other night. I think she lost her footing slightly of the second turn and there was a strong wind in her face down the back straight but she really came home. We’re delighted with her.”
As for plans for the immediate future, Owen was keeping his cards close to his chest. Any mention of Towcester was batted away with McKenna saying, “We don’t know yet. We’ll sit down and discuss things soon. Before you know it, a decision will have to be made. The Oaks is only around the corner. We won’t be going for the 600 though.”
Needless to say, the final line was delivered with tongue firmly in cheek. Where ever Susie Sapphire does end up, she will undoubtedly be the star attraction.
