News came through yesterday that the Kilkenny Track Champion Open Unraced would receive a real boost with increased prizemoney, making it the most valuable unraced competition on the calendar.
In recent years the competition, which has been a stepping stone for so many superstars through the years, has jumped from €5,000 to €10,000 but that will change this year.
It’s with real delight that those involved in Kilkenny track are announcing that the 2023 renewal of the prestigious competition will now see the winner receive a stunning €15,000. With a total prize fund of €32,000, it is now the most valuable unraced competition in the country and one of the most valuable competitions on the entire greyhound calendar.
It was already certain to attract many of the most promising youngsters in training but those with a talented unraced greyhound are now certain to consider a crack at the famous competition. Owners and trainers should note that the stake is open to 48 entries and the opening round is scheduled for Friday, May 5th. We look forward to seeing the next generations of stars emerge from the stake.
