There was an all-grade nine race card at Galway Greyhound Stadium last night and there was no doubt who stole the headlines as David McGrath’s Foxwood Storm produced a sizzling display in sprint contest in race five.
Only an October 20’ son of Sonic and Slaneyside Zaoa, Foxwood Storm was the well-supported 4/5 favourite heading into his S4 contest but he soon turned it into a procession as he blew his rivals away. Running from trap three, Foxwood Storm pinged the lids before showing a smashing turn of early pace to draw clear of his rivals in the opening yards. Holding an already unassailable lead around the bottom two ends, Foxwood Storm continued to set a relentless gallop and he powered up the home straight to cross the line six and a half lengths better off than Caislean Joey in second. The time was a sparkline 18.87 .10s.
IN OTHER RACES
In race eight, Breaghmore Joe went quickest over the standard trip with an excellent performance for MJ Corrigan. Heading to traps the 7/4 favourite for success, the heavyweight tracker was led early on by both Abigails Mystery and Croaghill Jaytee with the latter taking control rounding the opening turn. Never too far off the pace however, Breaghmore Joe took over at the three quarter mark and the son of Ballymac Matt and Eileens Blue was to run out a convincing winner thereafter. Four and a half lengths better off than Croaghill Jaytee at the line, the time was a rapid 28.97 .20s.
John Collins and Albert Long are never too far away at Galway and they ended the night on a high as Brickhill Daisy got back to winning ways to record a brilliant twelfth career victory. Running from trap one, Brickhill Daisy was one of many in with a chance on the run to the opening corner but her rails pitch proved decisive as she nipped around ahead of Bumblebee Seamus in second. Two lengths between the leading pair down the back, Brickhill Daisy stuck to her task well in the closing stages and she crossed the line a length and a half too strong for Bumblebee Seamus in second. The time was 29.18 .20s.
Although narrowly beaten in the concluding race of the night, the Paul and Paddy Burke combination did get on the scoresheet earlier in the night as Bumblebee Lana (Ballymac Vic - Bumblebee Rosie) landed race four. A 6/4 favourite at the off, the blue jacket of Bumblebee Lana bolted from traps and she quickly developed a four length lead down the back straight. In search of the line late on, Newyork Sky was making rapid inroads in the closing stages but Bumblebee Lana held firm to cross-over with three parts of a length to spare. The time was 29.50 .20s.
There was a super finish in race seven as Bridgepark Jack came from the stars to score for TJ Forde. Running from trap six, the striking brindle didn’t break too fluently from the outside and he sat some six lengths adrift of the leader heading into the back straight. However, making eye-catching progress at the midway point was the son of Tyrur Big Mike and Newquay Delight and he came home with a wet sail to cross the line three parts of a length better off than another big finisher in Toolate Shannon. The time was 29.54 .20s.
