As the old expression goes, you win nothing in trials but we had to reference the incredible trial of The Other Kobe ahead of racing at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.
Jennifer O’Donnell’s son of Ballymac Best was unfortunately withdrawn from the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial at the semi-final stages after picking up a small injury but his latest trial would suggest he is as good as ever.
The April ’20 whelp had a spin over the 350yd trip at Shelbourne Park and, while the track is running quick at present, it as hard not to be seriously impressed, if not amazed, by The Other Kobe stopping the clock in 18.13. Yes, 18.13!
It seems safe to suggest The Other Kobe could be a big player in the major competitions through the remainder of the year. Certainly, don’t expect any big prices when he next appears in a race at Shelbourne Park, especially if drawn close to the fence.
