Peter Farrell
There were ten races down for decision last night at Thurles Greyhound Stadium and it proved a fruitful night for Kim Taylor as she accounted for a hat-trick of winners.
The first of the Kim Taylor treble to pass the post in front came in race five as New Sensation made it two wins from three starts. A son of King Elvis and Difficult Choice, New Sensation came from off-the-pace to score last time out but he was to control this contest from an early stage when rounding the opener in front. A 3/1 market chance, New Sensation opened a three length gap down the back straight and although Rosmult Blackeye made a good fist of things in second, New Sensation was to hold on gamely to win by one length. The time was 29.57 .20s.
The double was completed in race eight as Swift Fellowship (Farloe Blitz - Swift Niamh) scored for Keith and Sarah Taylor. Chasing a fourth career win, Swift Fellowship went to traps a 2/1 shot and he looked to have plenty of work on his plate as he rounded the opening turn. However, coursing around runners, Swift Fellowship took control and although the lead changed hands on multiple occasions thereafter, Swift Fellowship got the verdict by a neck on the line. The time was 29.87 .20s.
A memorable treble was completed in the final race of the night as kennel star Breathtaking again displayed her potency around Thurles Park. Chasing a hat-trick of wins heading into last nights A1/A2 contest, Breathtaking once again flew from trap five to record a 1.62 sectional early on. Once in front, there was no danger that the daughter of Good News and Ballymac Abigail was ever going to be caught and she galloped to a two and a half length victory over Whizzing Katie in second. The time was 29.06 .20s.
SCALLY DOUBLE
Another kennel who enjoyed multiple successes last night was Paddy Scally as both Cabra Astra and Cabra Cloud, two litter comrades, landed their respective contests.
It was Cabra Astra who got the ball rolling in race two as the September bitch ran to a comfortable success. Opening the lids herself to record a 1.60 sectional, Cabra Astra built an unassailable lead down the back straight and she maintained a powerful gallop all the way to the winning line where she had some five lengths in hand over nearest rival, Totos Fancy, in second. The time was 29.41 .20s.
In race four, litter sister Cabra Cloud sealed back-to-back victories with another smart display. A daughter of Cabra Firmino and Cabra Ebony, Cabra Cloud followed her kennel companion in pinging the lids from trap two to hold all the aces early on. Chased in second by Gortkelly Davy, it proved a nip and tuck contest for the majority of the race thereafter. However, Cabra Cloud was to display superior stamina in the closing stages and she pulled clear late on to seal a two length victory over Gortkelly Davy in second. The time was 29.68 .20s.
